You’re so right – people don’t realize how much knowledge they already have inside them, or how to present it to the outside world.

One good thing I encourage people to do is to mentor somebody in something — take a subject that is your passion and get out there and share your wisdom with someone. This can be a student, or a new business owner, or a freelancer, anybody who will benefit from your skills.

After spending several hours talking with people about your pet subject you’ll realize that you have more than enough wisdom to write your own book. And I highly recommend publishing your own eBook, which can even be shorter than a traditional book.

Did you know that one minute of talking is approximately one page of traditional book text? So record one hour of yourself talking to someone about your subject, transcribe it or have someone transcribe it, and that can be your first ebook at 60 pages long!

You get the idea!

I think it’s important to honor the experience you have – which is different from “book learning.” People are more interested in how things work, how real people are doing things in the world, rather than hours of history lessons about Jane Austen. (Although I love Jane Austen! :)

This is one of the simplest articles I’ve read on what it takes to get your name out there, and yet even as simple as it is, it’s VERY powerful.

Thank you for simplifying what I’ve seen so many experts complicate!

Very good article. I’m starting the process of taking advantage of the Social networking sites to market myself an an expert. It’s already starting to pay off.

The most important part is participation in groups and forums.

Thanks
