Google Profiles Can Help You Gain Marketshare in Your Name Today

Monday May 4, 2009
When people search for you do you show up? Have you tried Googling your name lately? How fast could I find you?

These are the questions that enter the minds of your prospective clients ad well as prospective employers. It doesn't matter whether you are looking for business or if you are looking for a job - the people on the other side of the decision are going to Google you just to see how well you've "branded" yourself.

We all know that search engine optimization is important and many of us know it takes months to get position we all desire which is the first page. I've got good news for you, last week Google introduced Google Profiles. What does this mean for you? You can sign up for a Google Profile, all you need is a Google account, verify your real name through screening Google has put into place - and your profile is created. The best thing is the majority of people I've shared this information with including several physicians in a conference last week have been listed on page one of Google when someone searches for their. Their page one placement happened on that average within 8 hours. I obviously can't guarantee that the results will continue to place you on page one, but I can say it's nice while it lasts.

If I were you, I'd want my marketshare on my name within Google - so what are you waiting for? Complete your Google Profile today and let me know if you see similar results. It worked for me, just Google Me and see for yourself.

Hi Laura,

WhitePages has been offering this service for almost a year now and has been very successful with first page rankings. Folks can add their listings to the WhitePages website (http://tinyurl.com/cuo85w), and in a few months, will actually be able to delete/modify information as well. It’s another alternative to Google and one that will ultimately provide more Control over your information online.

Hi Laura:
This is great for people who are branding themselves. How does this work for a store or company that is not branding an individual?

Mabel -

I’m not sure about a Google Profile for your business, but you can “claim” or add your business on Google Maps. The map listings are often shown at the top of search results, so this could be one good way to gain control.

Hi Laura,

great article! A few other social media sites that will get you listed on the first google page that I recommend are Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Just google my name and you’ll see me come up in the first three pages of google. Very powerful!

PS: You encouraged me to write a blog entry on social media and profiles today. Click my name to see my blog.
