Lately I've become an avid geolocation service user. My service of choice is Foursquare. Foursquare allows me to check in at locations that I visit and share that with my Facebook and Twitter followers, but it offers more to me than that. I recently moved to a new location, while I'm in the same city I'm still getting familiar with what is around me. If you have moved recently I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. I need a new dry cleaners, a new nail salon and of course the usual frequented places like the grocery store.

I started using Foursquare about 2 months ago and never realized how much I depended on its service until recently. I love the fact that I can find all the businesses located around me. Well, almost all of them if they are listed.

My use of Foursquare made me realize how important it is to local businesses as a marketing tool. Today, I want to share my findings with you. I realize that many of you are overwhelmed with all of the "social media marketing" talk that is surrounding you daily, but I promise you won't want to miss this.

Take a few moments of your day and learn how geolocation applications and services can unlock marketing power within your regional area and your neighborhood. I like to think of these marketing opportunities as local marketing on steroids, I think after you read what I have to say you will feel the same way.

Oh and did I mention at this time you can list specials for free?

Your Turn: Are you using geolocation services and applications? If so, how is it working for you? If not, will you be considering it in the near future.

This was a great and informative post about Foursquare Laura. I had only read the “con’s” about the service but after reading the features you discuss here make me want to give it a try. Will let you know how it goes! Cheers,

Andy

Very informative article on Foursquare, I have yet to start using Foursquare, but I truly think it is completely changing local marketing for the better, and it is very cheap for companies

Foursquare is one of the cool geolocation sites out there that can be used for marketing purposes. I belive there are a dozen more similar sites that marketers can utilize. I try to market my business on most of the social sites in Spokane
