How does a random photo on Twitter become fodder for scandal that might bring down a member of Congress -- a man who many expected to be the next mayor of New York City?  There are key differences between the kinds of mistakes that get forgiven by the press and public and the kind that don't. The two key questions are these:

  • Can you see yourself, or your neighbor, making that same mistake?
  • Is  the person who made this mistake a hypocrite or a sneak?

What can we learn from the Anthony Weiner scandal?   Learn more in the article by contributing writer Guy Bergstrom - Weinergate: The Fall of a Promising Politician

Are we really at a point that we offer guidance to people who exhibit such unacceptable behavior on how to manage that unacceptable behavior. If I follow the rationale of your advice, then what Weiner did would have been tolerated if he would have followed your four steps. REALLY? You missed the most important step: 5. Resign.

Public figures can’t get away with that type of behavior no matter how well they manage the post fall-out.

Ronnie, as PR and marketing professionals there will always be a need for damage control. The article is about that – damage control and how to do it appropriately.

If you think that by him resigning, that will be the last we see of sex scandals in the political realm, well we both know that’s not true. Perhaps, next time – because there will be a next time – the person involved will handle the aftermath a little more effectively.

I have to go with Ronnie on this one. There is no spin or damage control to be done. Take a page out of Congressman Chris Lee’s book and resign. What is it with the New York Politicians and the online photo posting?
