If you answered yes, I hear you.

Public speaking is either something someone loves or hates - there is no in-between.

The secret in being comfortable in front of a crowded room is being prepared and confident about what you are presenting. Preparation and confidence will allow you to interject more of your personality enabling you to be entertaining and relaxed.

Learn how to prepare, create and practice your presentation in a way that you'll find the jitters disappear.  You may just find that you love public speaking after all - I did.   Public Speaking - Preparation and Presentation Tips

The word “Speeech” is what terrifies most people. Ask the same people to come and talk to a few people and it is less daunting.

A speech or presentation is only a chat with some people and when you have that mindset it is much easier. That isn’t to say it isn’t important or shouldn’t be professional but talking to people is natural for most of us. So think about your talk to people and not a “speech”.

This works on radio as well. Forget the millions that might be listening and focus on talking to the interviewer.

My own expereince is going from a terrified speech maker to a confident “talker” who is now confident to stand up in front of 100s of people. Of course the adrenalin still flows but so now does the excitement and I now love “public talking” .

Talking in public is a grea tway to showcase what you do so embrace it. It is also a low cost marketing option. See the webpage below to see how I marketed myself to 189 prospects, converted several into lucrative contracts and spent not a penny on marketing with this “training event”.

If public speaking is going to be part of your future I would suggest finding a Toastmasters Club. Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization that helps people develop communication and leadership skills in a supportive environment. I have seen people go from absolutely terrified to powerfully eloquent. It is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.

I agree with Ben Thorkelson, eather find a Toastmasters club or Toastmistreses club, which are now called POWERtalk. There you learn all the techniques, like controlling your nerves, how to write a speech and perform it and get all the practis that you need to become a confident speeker/talker, among other things.
