The term "inbound marketing" is getting a lot of buzz today, but I've found that several people really don't know what is meant when someone refers to inbound marketing. Inbound marketing is different from outbound marketing. Think of it this way:
Outbound marketing uses interruptive marketing techniques such as:
- Trade Shows
- Seminars
- Television Commercials
- Print Advertisements
- Telemarketers
Inbound marketing is more permission based marketing and uses techniques such as:
- Content Marketing
- Search Marketing
- Video Production and Optimization
- Social Media
As you can see inbound marketing techniques tend to find consumers when they are researching information to make a purchase. They are more open to the message because you are not interrupting what they are doing, so they are willing to listen to what you have to say.

With inbound marketing, you’re sure of not taking their minds off their major commitments as far as internal marketing is concerned. It about meeting them on their turf and convincing them to give you a fraction of their time which they wouldn’t count since they are by what they enjoy doing. Nice article
Brief and good article. Do you think Content marketing is a part of Inbound marketing? My understanding is that Content marketing is a kind of marketing technique to attract prospective customers with content, that’s all. But, as HubSpot provides, Inbound Marketing is a bunch of inboundy marketing techniques; content marketing, search, social media, blogging, permission-based email markting, landing page optimization etc… correct? BTW, your articles on Inbound marketing are quite good. Do you mind if I translate and introduce them to Japanese marketing people on my blog? If any problem, let me know it. Your consideration is appreciated.
