TwitterFeed - Explore the Ease and Benefits

By , About.com Guide

If you are using Twitter as a method of marketing your products and services you will want to dig into TwitterFeed. TwitterFeed is a free service that will automatically post your blog posts directly into your Twitter account, so that your followers can read the blog posts that are of interest to them.

I have three blogs, besides the one here at About.com, so when I found a way that my posts could be promoted without requiring more time from me; I jumped on it.

Getting started with TwitterFeed is not difficult and well worth the 15 minutes you'll need to invest to set it up.

How can you get started? I'm glad you asked.

You will need:

  • A Twitter account.
  • An OpenID, OpenID is a standard that been created that allows users to have a single sign on that they can use on different websites. It's free and easy to obtain. There are several OpenID providers, so you may want to spend some time checking to see if you already have an OpenID before signing up for an OpenID.
  • Your RSS Feed url.

With those three things you ready to roll; here are four steps that will get you started.

  • Go to TwitterFeed and register for a new account. Just login using your OpenID.
  • Setup your Twitterfeed account by entering your blog's RSS Feed.

Note: You can use TwitterFeed to post to more than one Twitter account, as well as assign one TwitterFeed account to more than one blog. Like I mentioned before I have four blogs and I feed all four into my Twitter account and it works seamlessly.

  • You will then need to choose at what frequency rate you want TwitterFeed to send posts to your Twitter account. For instance, do you want it to send your posts every 30 minutes? Just remember be cognitive of your followers and if you are sending your posts repeatedly this can be seen as spam for some of those following you.
  • You will then need to setup how you want your posts to be displayed, will you include only the post title or will you also send out a brief description of your post? It's your choice.

Another great feature included in TwitterFeed is that you can have a prefix sent out before your blog post, for example you may want to add prefix text that says "New Blog Post." It's up to you.

That's it, once you've followed the steps above your blog posts will automatically be fed into your Twitter account for followers to see.

Let's Tweet, shall we. Come follow me by visiting my Twitter profile.
