I'm still amazed when I hear companies say "Twitter is only for people that have an excess amount of free time." While I'll agree Twitter does take a time investment, understand that whether or not you are on Twitter does not matter your customers and potential customers are there, talking about YOU!
Are you curious about what they are saying?
Today I will show you how to measure the buzz about you, your products and your company. You don't have to be a an avid Twitter user to use these tools, but if you are not staying in tune with what is being said, you are making a big mistake. You also want to know if there is a lack of conversation about your company, because that also shows you that it's time to get people talking about what you have to offer.
There are many ways to track the buzz, but today I will show you my way; it will at least get you started.
If you just want to be able to track whenever it's convenient for you, you can use Twitters search tool.
I use TweetDeck. It's an application that allows you to Tweet with individuals, but you can also perform search queries and be notified when someone is searching for you. It's a great tool that can consistently run on your desktop if you want it to.
The next thing I have done is created queries that I use to search, this helps me in getting exactly what I'm looking for, and that's tweets about me, my writing, or my companies.
The formulation of queries may look difficult, but stay with me; it's not.
Here is what your search query should look like:
companyname OR “your name” -from:twitterid
For example I'll show you what my query looks like:
About.com or "Laura Lake" -from:Laura_Lake
See it's really not as hard as your think. Now in Tweetdeck you put that in as a search and it creates a column in your deck so that you can stay alert to what's going on.
Give it a try, if you have problems post in the comment section and I will help.
Also, don't forget you can always come Tweet with me, just add Laura_Lake to your Tweeps.
