Do You Marketing a Product or a Service?
Poc Network - Service (Web Design)
Explain Your Product or Service
Our company specializes in graphic and web development, as well as hosting and tech consulting.
How Did You Start Marketing Your Small Business?
We started with print, video and radio advertising, and spread from there to focus on word of mouth more than anything.
How Did It Work?
In the beginning we put an enormous amount of effort into marketing materials (i.e., business cards, brochures, mailers, etc) and both online and offline video/radio advertising. Soon after we decided to reduce such efforts since they proved to be very costly and did not bring in the desired number of clients.
As any web designer, we also started with a few free designs to really get our name out there and show what we are capable of (it's important to have a portfolio to present to your clients). This resulted in a few new clients who witnessed what we had created, and from this point we realized how effective word of mouth really is.
Through social media, we are able to reach out to all of our current and potential clients to keep them updated in our work, as well as specials. This has proved to be very important because it really keeps your company in the very fast moving pace the internet is set at currently.
More than anything though, word of mouth has brought in more customers than any other form of advertising or media. It is important to leave every customer with a positive memory of your services, and a few extra business cards or flyers in case they want to share them with anyone else who might need our services.
Advice
- Be very careful with TV/Print advertising, and research similar companies to see how well they did using that median.
- Make sure to always have a full supply of business cards (or flyers) with you always.
- Word of mouth, word of mouth, word of mouth. A Happy customer results in more customers.
- Social media/networks are very important (i.e, twitter, facebook, linkedin, etc)
