Like most people you have probably heard about social media marketing, maybe even dabbled a bit in Twitter, Facebook or YouTube, but you are still not sure how you can put social media to work for you and your business. I understand.
I've put together a few resources that will help you not only understand the need and the importance of social media marketing, but they will also help you in getting started.
I know I sound like a broken record when I talk about the economy, but the truth is we are all trying to be resourceful and find those low-cost and no-cost ways to market; social media is an option. If you are struggling and your marketing dollars are shrinking I challenge you to give social media marketing a try. You may not and honestly probably won't experience success overnight, but over time you will begin to see and reap the marketing benefits and rewards that social media marketing brings to your marketing mix.

Laura:
I’ve read many of your articles about social media marketing and it prompted me to sign up for a facebook for my company. But, I’m having trouble making my profile public. So, basically no one can really see my company’s facebook. I know I must be doing something wrong. Can you help?
Laura. Your posts this week and last week on recession-proofing your business are so timely – and they communicate just the right sense of urgency. The times we live in and the technology train whizzing by are forcing us all to really change our approaches – NOW!
Our customers at SpotMixer are small to medium sized business who are very focused on DIY marketing. I’m amazed everyday at 20 year SMB owners who are jumping in and creating their own online video ads and posting them on youtube.
And I have to say I agree with your reconsideration of Twitter. Even in the past two months the nature of the players and dialogue have shifted considerably.
Thanks always for your insight and perspective.
Kim, send me an email with your company name and I’ll see if I can give you some hands-on help
Cherie, thanks for the compliment. I’m glad you have enjoyed the articles.
Kim, you also might find this article useful in determining whether it is group or a fan page for your company that you want to create:

Hi Laura:
Thank you for all the information. I wrote an e-mail to you a few days ago at: ‘marketing.guide@about.com’ Is that the correct address? I got it off your blog site.
TheCardBoard.net is no-cost (free) online business card bulletin board. Free marketing for yourself and your business. Great for small business owners or people in sales to extend their reach leveraging the web.
Your articles on social networking and marketing have been very helpful. Our PR firm has launched two blogs and several staffers have Twitter accounts. I’m now on Facebook where I’ve started a PR group and about 15 people in our local Myrtle Beach area have joined the group. The blogs are getting good feedback. The first blog focuses attention on our clients’ products and the second offers info that can be useful to small business and gives us exposure (http://costeffectivepr.blogspot.com/ )
I believe that social networking will play an increasingly important part in marketing. Those who don’t get on board will be left behind.
